Pius VII 1804 Napoleon Coronation Medal

41.5mm bronze by Jean-Pierre Droz. Obverse: Bust of Pope Pius VII (1800-23), in full raiment and tiara. Reverse: Notre Dame Cathedral. In this portrait medal by the talented French artist, Pius looks young and gentle. As is well known, Napoleon brought Pius to Paris to preside over his coronation, and then he kept the pope as a "guest" for years. An early 20th century Paris Mint strike.
