Pope Conon (written CUNO here) reigned from 686-7, bronze medal 38.8mm, XF condition. This type of papal medal was cast in the late 1500s. Portraits of many early popes were created, although any individual type can be considered rare. Most of the reverse types were fairly generic, as with the presently-offered piece. This is a sharply cast example, probably 18th-19th century, with a particularly fine example used for the model.
